In The Mood For Color

Hello again crafty friend!

Today's card stems from the class called "In The Mood for Color" with Stephanie Klauck as part of Altenew's Educator Certification Program.  She suggested that we focus on the mood of a color instead of the stamp or die cut.  She explained that each color represents different moods and how that interprets onto the card.

Looking at the colors and moods, I decided to use a color that I don't usually work with, orange.  Orange symbolizes health, happiness and courage.  I also wanted to use a stamp and die set that I haven't used yet either, Build A Flower Snapdragon.  Snapdragons are a great source for pollinators such as bees and have been around since the Roman era.  Orange snapdragon's represent desire, fascination, enthusiasm, positive energy, warmth, cheerfulness, success and passion.  I hope that some of these moods are expressed in today's card.

This stamp set has layering stamps so having a stamp positioner such as Altenew's Stampwheel 2.0 is a great tool to have.  Once you have all the stamps lined up, making multiples is definitely a time saver.

For the snapdragons, I used three shades of orange and two shades of green.  After I die cut them, I set them aside to work on the background.

The background is Altenew's Essential Stone Wall press plate.  This press plate gives the paper a stucco texture.  I used Spellbinders Bisque Betterpress A2 cotton panel along with the press plate to get that great texture.  I didn't use any ink as I wanted the white stucco look to the card.  I hope you can see the detail in this pic:

For the sentiment, I used the 'smile' from Altenew's Vertical Greetings Die Set.  I cut the shadow layer with an orange cardstock from my stash.  The smile layer die cuts the letters so you can either use the letters by itself, or glue the layer over the shadow layer so the color of the shadow layer shows through, or die cut the smile again with a different color cardstock and insert the letters into the other smile die cut.  I did the latter on this card.  I die cut the smile first with regular white cardstock and again with orange glitter cardstock.  I glued the white layer down first onto the shadow layer and then glued the letters back into place.

Now that I have all the elements done, it was time to assemble the card.

I took three of the snapdragons and glued them together.  I then added some foam tape behind them so they have dimension on the card.  I decided to put them on an angle from the bottom left side of the card.  I removed the adhesive backing from the foam tape and adhered that to the card.  I trimmed off the excess which wasn't too much.  I added foam tape behind the sentiment as well before adhering that alongside the snapdragons.

I then added some silver gems around the snapdragons and a little silver bow to finish off the card.

Hello there! Time has gone by since my last creative card post.  Life's been busy the past month or so, but it will be quiet again in a couple weeks - yeah!  I can get back to my crafting journey! For my next class for Altenew's Educator Certification Program, I chose Color Your Day by Therese Calvird.  The cards she made for this class were so beautiful and she gave many examples on how to find color inspiration such as an item around your home or from your own clothes! It's Beginning to Look Like Christmas!

Happy Holidays! Wow, the holidays are quickly approaching and I've been busy working on our Christmas cards for family and friends. I make a set of cards for family and a different set of cards for friends so I will be sharing them in several posts instead of one because I feel each one is special and deserves their own spotlight. The first card I am sharing with you today, is a card for a wonderful friend and her husband.  She loves crocheting and her husband is always there to help her untangle the yarn or support her when she's frustrated with a pattern.  We have been blessed to receive many of her beautiful creations especially crocheted angels that I proudly display.  So with that in mind, I was so excited to see a new product released from Concord & 9th - the Granny Square Turnabout stamp.
