Color Your Day!

Time has gone by since my last creative card post.  Life's been busy the past month or so, but it will be quiet again in a couple weeks - yeah!  I can get back to my crafting journey!

For my next class for Altenew's Educator Certification Program, I chose Color Your Day by Therese Calvird.  The cards she made for this class were so beautiful and she gave many examples on how to find color inspiration such as an item around your home or from your own clothes!

But, since I'm pretty boring and basic when it comes to color (😀), I chose to use the color wheel for my color inspiration.  I used three colors that were alongside each other called analogous in technical terms.  On the color wheel, green, blue-green, and blue are analogous.  Using that as my guide, I decided to use Eastern Sky, Pool, and Sweet Leaf from Altenew's Fresh Dye Inks.

I ended up making two cards, but one will be my main focus and the other card is used as another example at the end of this post.

Here is the card I will be discussing below:


I first used the Eastern Sky color which is a soft blue to start in the center of the stencil.  I then followed with the Pool color to blend in where the Eastern Sky ended.  Next, I used the Sweet Leaf color to blend in where the Pool left off.  I then repeated the pattern in reverse to cover the whole card panel.

When I started this process, I was skeptical that these colors would not look good at all.  But when I removed the stencil, I was surprised how pretty they were together.

For the sentiment, I wanted it to fit inside the white circle so I found the word 'hi' from Altenew's Timeless Sentiments 2 die set and die cut only the letters, not the shadow die, using their Black Diamond Glitter Cardstock which is my favorite black glitter cardstock ever.  It's mesmerizing in person.

This design would be a great one layer card and it's a simple pattern that would work well with any kind of sentiment needed.

Here is the second card that I made using the same inks.


Since I feel the colors are coastal in color, I wanted to make a card that you would find in a tropical location.  For the background, I inked the colors onto the Essential Textures Wood Press Plate to give the appearance of a wall to a building and adhered the plumeria flowers in a complimentary color on top.

Lesson learned that the color wheel is always right and a huge crafting tool to use going forward for coloring anything.

Hello Everyone! Today, I am very happy to share the second part for my final challenge for Level 1 of  Altenew's Educators Certification Program, the Hers Cards Set. The final challenge I was assigned was to create gift sets of "His" and "Hers" cards using at least three components from what I learned from the courses.  Each set needed to be cohesive but vary slightly.  I also needed to create packaging for each set in which I need to use a recycled item.  Since this challenge incorporated a lot of information, I've decided to divide the challenge submission into two parts, His Card Set and Hers Card Set.  Products used (except for a few) were all from Altenew and I will list what products I used for each card.  For both card sets, I decided to use a birthday theme and also used the same product for the her cards and same product for the his cards but used them differently on each card. A Beautiful Night

Happy Camping Season! My husband and I had owned a travel camper and loved camping in the Spring and Fall in Pennsylvania.  We would start our campfire around dinner time to hang out watching the sun set and marvel at God's beauty.  That was the inspiration for this card and for Altenew's next class 'Seasonal Scene Building'. I wanted to create a framed camping scene, just like we would do for a loved picture to hang on the wall. To start on the background, I found a light purple cardstock and then ink blended a couple shades of purple ink to create the darkening sky.  I then did the same with the grass but using shades of green ink.  Onto the sky panel, I splattered some white ink to reflect stars and used a silver glitter pen to fill in some spots. A New Chapter!

Hello there! If you have been following along in my crafting journey with Altenew's Educator Certification Program, I'm happy to say that I've passed Level 1!  Thank you to everyone who has taken a peek at my blog and supported me along the way😃!   So now onto Level 2! For the first card in these lessons, I'm starting with Beyond Basic Backgrounds in which I learned a new technique - water bleaching! Here is the card I will be discussing below: To start, I grabbed white watercolor cardstock and ink blended two shades of pink, Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry, from the Tim Holtz Distress Ink product line by Ranger.  Using a small blending tool with a sponge dome attached, I started laying down the spun sugar first onto the cardstock in random areas.  Using the picked raspberry, I blended that into the spots surrounding the spun sugar areas.  I then reapplied both colors to get more color onto the cardstock.  I also dried the panel using my heat gun once...
